The Fureys & Davy Arthur Live In Belfast DVD. “During the bad old days of the mid 1980’s of the troubles as they were affectionately know, it was impossible even for a TV producer to attract quality international acts to Belfast.
I remember well that phone call to Finbar, beating around the bush, reluctant to get to the point, knowing the answer “I’ll ring the lads and get back to you in half and hour” he said. Three days later I got the call that they would be delighted. That decision wasn’t going to be rushed!
The Grand Opera House Concert sold out in hours and George, Eddie, Paul, Davy and Finbar gave a great moral boost to the weary citizens of Belfast.
Paul’s sad passing was a turning point. Would it change? Would it end? Would we lose arguably the finest exponents of traditional music this island has produced? Not so, the Furey’s and Davey Arthur continue to entertain audiences as a group and Finbar has forged a hugely successful solo career worldwide.
Long may they continue to perform in their passionate inimitable style.
Thank you for coming to Belfast when no one else would, thanks for the great memories and many laughs and thank you for a truly memorable show.”
